MOORHEAD — Clay County and the City of Moorhead are celebrating the grand opening of their new Resource Recovery Center.
A ribbon cutting and a “ceremonial first dump” of garbage were held Tuesday, Jan. 31, for the opening of the center.
The new facility merges a transfer station, public recycling drop off, and household hazardous waste disposal into one building. These services were previously available in separate facilities across the city.
Clay County solid waste director Corey Bang says the Resource Recovery Center will make properly disposing of waste much more accessible.
“Rather than having to go to household hazardous waste which was only open two days a week before it’ll be open five days a week now. Um, same with electronics it was only Tuesday night from 4 to 6 now you can come all day everyday.”
Bang also says consolidating the services into one building will improve their efficiency in a number of ways.
“It allows us to cross-train all of our employees so that when one person’s gone on vacation we can cover for them, so it actually allows us to have a few less employees. (It) streamlines everything for us so it’s just less time consuming”
The center opens to any resident of Clay County on Monday, Feb. 6. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. It will also be open from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
